On 1st May 1960, the state of Gujarat was established from among the 17 districts of the State of Bombay. The 17 districts of Bombay were further subdivided. There are a total of 25 administrative districts in Gujarat, of which Gandhinagar is one. Gandhinagar is considered to be the political hub of Gujarat. The Present Elected member of Gandhinagar since 19 years is Sri L.K Advani. Gandhinagar possesses an administrative body of its own which is called ‘The Capital Project Division’ and it was developed by the Gujarat Government in the year 1965.

Gandhinagar District Court
The judiciary in Gandhinagar was established on 31st July, 2004. The Judiciary of Gandhinagar was bifurcated successfully from Mehsana and Rural Ahmedabad districts. There are a total of three courts of Talukas under the Judiciary of Gandhinagar and they have their headquarters at Manasa, Dehgam and Kalol. The first District Judge of the Gandhinagar District Court was Shri K.J. Thaker. At present, there are a total of 40 Judicial Officers in Gandhinagar.

Government Offices in Gandhinagar

The government offices in Gandhinagar are set up in Capital Complex which is spread over an area of 75 hectares. It consists of the Legislative Assembly, the Offices of the Heads of Departments, the Secretariat and the High Court. The complex has been planned in such a way that it merges with the front landscape of River Sabarmati that lies towards the south-east.

Capital Complex is sited towards the south-east point of central axis road no.4. Towards its north, there are other State Government Offices. The area towards south of the complex is reserved for the offices of Government of India. The total area covered by the Government Office Complex is about 150 hectares.
